Artist Statement

Catherine Keebler was born in Chicago. She obtained a B.A. from Mundelein College, now part of Loyola University. After her retirement as a technical director of a cytopathology laboratory she was admitted to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating with a B.F.A.

Catherine has worked with encaustic monotypes since taking a workshop associated with the Santa Fe Art Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She also works with water-based ink and often combines inks and encaustic on Asian paper.

The elusiveness of a single moment in time as it is experienced or perceived is where Catherine's interest is. It is her feeling that one rarely is able to comprehend the totality of any one single event as it occurs.

She also brings memories from her childhood, her around-the-world travels, and her previous career as a cytotechnologist to create her mostly imaginary images.
